ICC convicts jihadist leader for gender-based crimes in Mali

Islamist militia leader Al Hassan has been convicted of crimes against humanity, including torture, rape, sexual slavery, persecution, and the destruction of cultural heritage in 2012. His extremist militant group seized power in Mali in 2012 but was driven out by French forces in 2013.
